I was born and raised in The Netherlands
and received my training at the Academie
voor Beeldende Vorming in Tilburg and my Bachelor of
Arts, cum
laude, at the
Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St.
Joost in Breda.
In 1987 I
traveled to New York City for a design internship at studio
Identica, in
SoHo; two years later I moved to Boston. There I was
offered the opportunity to join
The MIT Press design department, renowned for its
design excellence. It was in this
creative environment that I developed my love for
bookmaking. I was made senior
designer, and worked with the marketing and production
departments, and with
authors directly, on a wide variety of projects.
In 1996 I started my own design business. I continue to
work for The MIT Press and many
other domestic and international publishing houses,
including Oxford University
Press.
In working closely with art directors and production
managers I assure that each project
meets (and exceeds!) the expectations of the marketing
department and authors, and all
deadlines and budgets are met.
I have also designed a variety of books for individuals. My
goal is to work with you,
the author, to communicate your work, to clarify it, to
enhance it. I provide you with
estimates for both design and production of your book. I
can help find the right editor
and manage the production process. Your books will come to
you ready for sale, or
presentation to the publishers in your field.
My designs have
won many awards from The Association of American University
Presses. I also received a "Best of Category" commendation
in The New England Book
Show and a bronze medal in the Leipzig International Book
Competition.
My work was praised by the Case Circle of
Excellence and the New England Museum
Association. My books have appeared in Print magazine and can be found in the
AIGA Design Archives.
Each book deserves its own singular visual concept. I enjoy
developing it, finding
the right tone, the perfect typeface, and the most
satisfying layout for every project.
